Harley- Yorkshire Terrier

Harley, a 7 year old Yorkshire Terrier, came in to see Dr. Bill and was diagnosed with stage 4 periodontal disease.  Harley had significant gingivitis of the upper canines and premolars.  This is the most advanced stage of periodontal disease!  At stage 4, Harley’s teeth have now lost more than 50% of their support, there is severe inflammation, gum recession & bleeding, deep pockets, bone loss, and tooth mobility.  Harley needed IMMEDIATE care in order to relieve the pain and advanced periodontal disease.

Harley was very lucky we did the oral surgery quickly, if we had waited much longer the disease could have entered the bloodstream and infected the kidneys, heart and liver.  We performed several extractions and due to the severity of his oral health, he will require frequent follow-up cleanings as well as DILIGENT home care in order to maintain stability.  Here is what Harley’s owner thought of Harley’s experience:

“Harley got excellent care during his dental procedure and after.”
